Cherokee Lake, TN --- Bass are biting on Lizards (Carolina rigged)

April 2006

Lake Russell, GA --- Bass fishing is excellent. Finding fish on the beds. Best results were with the watermelon red lizards or anything watermelon colored works well. Crappie fishing ws good under bridges and around the pylons. Fish for Crappie with live minnows.

Watauga Lake, TN --- Bass fishing is heating up and they are moving into the shallow waters. Fishing with lizards, tubes, spinner bait, jerkbaits, Hopkins jigging spoons or if you prefer flies, use Clauser minnows and woolyboogers. Smallmouth are moving into shallow water closer to the mouths of the rivers. Start out deep, and then work your way into the shallow water. Jerk baits work best on wind blown banks, and my favorite (live bait) are always best (shiners or trout minnows).

Watauga River --- Trout are hitting just about anything right now. Those of you that just like fishing with dry flies, now is the time. Try to match the hatch the best that you can. Downsize your fly if they won't bite. Try stripping a dry fly acorss the water for a reaction strike. BWO's #20 or smaller are working well. Use dry flies, Prince Nymphs or Hair's ear when the water is clear. Trout stocking has begun in most creeks and it is a great time for wade fishing.

Try these tips and GOOD FISHING!

October 2005

Fly Fishing

Good with sulpher midges or nymph fishing with copper head johns or small black midges.

Lake Fishing

Smallmouth, Walleye and Crappie are biting good on Watauga Lake. Grab a pound or two of live minnows from Mel-Bros hatchery in Blountville on your way to the lake! 423-323-5579.

September 2005

Small Mouth on the River

Live minnows on 1/32 jig, 4" Lizards (watermelon/red), motor oil, Grape and White Berkely Crawl worms. (or black and blue or black and yellow) are working well.

Trout

Nymphs and copper head johns, wooly boogers and black and olive dry's are good. (Mayfly #20, BWO #22, Black Caddis #20 and Hoppers #12)

For best results fishing on the lake, try some night time fishing. The big ones are lurking around after dark. Have fun!

June 2005

Wautauga River- Using Dry Flies (sulphers, BWO's, light cayhill and caddis). You'll need a fast retrieve to get their attention. When using nymphs (prince nymphs and copperhead johns), fish slow and deep. For larger fish, use the "Fly Shops", foul free wooley boogers (olive and black). A fast retrieve works best with these. You can also use Hare's Ear (olive or natural) with a natural drift or a fast retrieve for the best results.
